Getting to Know Joey Vanderveer

December 21, 2020 by itsyouradmin Weddings 0 comments

Joey Vanderveer – husband, father of 5, identical twin & Family Feud champion (we’ll get into that more below). Joey is the newest DJ on our team but has quickly grown in talent and definitely knows how to keep the dance floor full! Read on for our Q&A with Joey!

How did you get started in the DJ business?

I’m an art teacher and about 5 years ago, two of my students had a parent (William Ryan) who volunteered his time and equipment for an end of year party at my school. I, as part of the team planning that event, got to know William and inquired if he needed any assisting help during the summer (it was either that or becoming an Uber driver) and he asked if I had any experience DJing. I hadn’t, but I had been singing at weddings and at church previously, so that was my foot in the door for the entertainment industry. With training and shadowing events, I soon became a DJ with It’s Your Night and haven’t looked back!

What’s your favorite part about DJing weddings?

Definitely meeting couples, hearing their story, and meeting their friends and families on the big day!

Since we’re in the biz, what’s your favorite song to dance to?

Green Peppers by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass

And your favorite karaoke song?

Tennessee Whiskey is my favorite for karaoke, but I love to perform “Fever” by Peggy Lee are part of my live sets. Watch below!

Okay tell us about your big moment of fame – Family Feud???

My family auditioned and they thought we were a good fit for the show, so in 2006 we went out to Burbank, California and we made it FIVE rounds – we were super excited! Our goal was to win enough money for a swimming pool, but didn’t quite hit the goal. It was a memorable experience, though!

Tell us a little about your wedding!

My wife, Kyle, and I were married in 2004. It was a beautiful day, but a busy one! So busy, that I didn’t even get to eat! Future couples, some advice for you, don’t forget to eat – you need that dancing fuel!

Our first dance song: “Crazy Love” by Aaron Neville

What is one piece of advice that you would give couples during the wedding planning process?

Prioritize entertainment! It can make or break your wedding.

Let’s wrap it up with a quick round of this or that!
